Is Microsoft killing Windows Phone? Naaah!

Windows Phone, a platform which is hated by media, and loved by its fans! Windows phone OS, when it was first launched years ago, lacked even the most basic features like the ability to copy-paste (yes, believe me!). So, off course, nobody liked it then, as it was far behind it's competitors Android and iOS. Now who would like to own a phone which was light-years behind their friends' phone? So as expected, Windows Phones had no buyers, because of which none of the app developers were interested to build apps for the platform. It still has a global market share of ~3% in the smartphone world, which is dominated by Android and iOS.
Time passed, things changed, and Microsoft was desperately trying to catch up to its rivals, and with the launch of Windows Phone 8.1, it almost succeeded by adding a host of new features like action centre, background images and a lot more features sans apps. But still it failed to attract customers due to lack of apps. And then, the rumours of Microsoft killing Windows Phone started everywhere. But, is it really so???

The answer is- NO. Because Microsoft cannot afford to take the risk of exiting the space which is the future of the industry that Microsoft operates in, because the sales of PCs have been lately falling making way for smartphones and tablets. So if Microsoft exits from the mobile space, it will have to shut down it's doors, because the future belongs to smartphones and not PCs.
So, Microsoft is aggressively betting on its Windows Phone platform. Then what is it doing to save Windows Phone? It is launching Windows 10 Mobile, an OS which is nowhere behind iOS and Android in terms of features and in fact, is ahead of them in some areas. Still it has a long way ahead, because it still lacks a lot of important apps as compared to its rivals, resulting in poor market share of 3%. To solve this issue, Microsoft is acting smart, and introduced the concept of universal apps, by which you can build an app for Windows phone or PC, and have it run on every device that runs Windows 10, from PC to tablets to band to smartphones. Easy for developers right? Also, the developers have another option of porting their existing apps from iOS and Android to Windows 10, without needing to write the apps from the scratch.
This will off course help Microsoft getting many apps for its Windows Phone platform, resulting in increase in its customer base and therefore increase its market share.
So, if you are thinking Windows Phone is going to die soon, you are wrong, and Microsoft is NOT giving up on phones. So you can buy a Windows Phone without thinking twice, if you like to buy a one, because Windows for phones is here to stay.
